Cooking to Eat Right With Today’s Diet

0 39

In a fast-paced society where everyone is on the run and always looking for energy, it’s amazing how poorly people eat. When did convenience and price become more important than good nutrition? Nowadays, it’s edible if it doesn’t require thinking and it makes your stomach stop growling. Taco Bell, McDonald’s, ready meals on TV, these aren’t the nutrients and food groups we learned from when we were first introduced to the food pyramid. Things got so bad that they had to reinvent the food pyramid. It’s time to fight back and learn how to eat again. Trans fats aren’t the problem, it’s the lack of education about cooking and proper nutrition that is slowly killing us off through heart failure and obesity.

Eating right has acquired a stigma of being too difficult or too expensive in today’s fast-paced world and workplace. Just because you don’t have a lot of time doesn’t mean you don’t have time to eat right. With a little forethought and proper planning, a week’s worth of meals can be prepared and frozen for later consumption. As Ziploc-type containers continue to become cheaper and more robust, they are now at the point where a week’s worth of food can be frozen and prepared in the same containers for just a few dollars. No more waiting for the next Tupperware party and scrounging pennies to save for that snap-top freezer and microwaveable jar you’ve got your eye on.

Recipes are available for all types of diets. Everything from vegetarian appetizers to quiches and soups can be easily found with a quick Google search. If you google OAMC or cook once a month, you’ll have a treasure trove of delicious recipes that can be made in bulk and frozen for quick prep later. OAMC is perfect for those who don’t mind spending a few hours a week cooking to have meals ready for the next week or two. With just two or three different recipes, there’s plenty of variety to keep your palate fresh for days to come. When it comes time to eat, meals are ready with just a quick defrost and reheat. Throw them on the stovetop or pop them in the microwave for a few minutes and voila, the food is as delicious as the day it was made. Enjoy your meal!
