The 3-day diet is a fad diet, that is, a weight loss diet, which had quickly gained popularity, but after a while, its popularity waned. It was a well-known diet from 1985. The 3-Day Diet is a regimented diet plan that still exists in texts and is practiced by some to lose weight quickly, lower cholesterol, cleanse, and increase energy. It is a pure nutrition plan that does not recommend any form of exercise along with diet.

The 3 Day Diet is often mistakenly referred to as The Cleveland Clinic Diet. This nutritional plan must be followed for exactly three consecutive days. This must be followed by a normal diet for the next four to five days, after which the 3-day diet plan must be selected again. Those who follow the 3 day diet plan are guaranteed to lose up to 10 pounds in just three days. If this diet regime is followed for a month, one can lose up to 40 pounds in 30 days. But the fact of the matter is that the weight loss from the 3 Day Diet is most likely liquid weight and not fat weight.

Following the 3 Day Diet requires a strict diet of the specified foods in the precisely specified proportions. Over- and under-eating the amounts indicated will deprive the dieter of the benefits of the 3-Day Diet.

Below is the 3 Day Diet Meal Plan

For the first day

  1. Breakfast: Have a cup of black tea or coffee, a single slice of toast with 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, and half a grapefruit.
  2. Lunch: Have a slice of toast and half a cup of tuna.
  3. Dinner: Take two slices or about three ounces of lean meat. A cup of beets, a cup of green beans, an apple (a small one), and a cup of vanilla ice cream (regular size).

For the second day

  1. Breakfast: Have an egg, half a banana, a slice of toast and a cup of black tea or coffee.
  2. Lunch: Have 1/2 cup of tuna or cottage cheese and five regular salty crackers.
  3. Dinner: Have 2 slices of beef, 1 cup cabbage or broccoli, 1/2 banana, 1/2 cup carrots, and 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream (regular size).

For the third day

  1. Breakfast: Have a cup of black tea or coffee, five pieces of regular salted crackers, an apple, and an ounce of cheddar cheese.
  2. Lunch: Have a cup of black tea or coffee, a boiled egg, a piece of toast.
  3. Dinner: Have 1 cup of tuna, 1 cup of cauliflower, 1 cup of carrots, 1 cup of cantaloupe, and 1/2 cup of regular vanilla ice cream.

Dieters consuming the 3 Day Diet consume more than 9 glasses of water or other non-caloric beverages along with the prescribed foods. There are no food replacements on this diet. Spices and flavorings are not allowed. However, you can add salt and pepper to taste.

Are you wondering how this diet will help you lose so much weight in such a short amount of time? There is no written record of how the 3 Day Diet works in cleansing the system, burning fat, increasing energy levels and lowering cholesterol levels. However, the way it works in weight loss is said to be as follows.

This unique blend of the specified foods works magically to induce a specific type of metabolic response in your body. Certain types of chemicals in these foods are believed to boost your metabolism and burn fat at a higher rate than is normally burned.

Returning to your normal eating style after these 3 days of dieting is to prevent your system from slowing down its metabolism, stopping storing fat and keeping you from getting hungry. As long as you alternate this 3 day diet with 4 to 5 days of normal dieting, you can do countless days of such a diet.

The cons of the 3 day diet plan

  • The diet is very low in carbohydrates. Since carbohydrates are responsible for water retention, weight loss is initially due to cutting out carbohydrates from your diet. So once you return to your normal eating habits, you tend to regain the weight you lost.
  • The diet does not provide you with the nutrition your body needs.
  • The diet is very monotonous, which is why the dieters tend to love their old eating habits better and so go back to it. In most cases, the resolution to lose weight stops halfway.
  • The belief that the 3 Day Diet works because of a unique metabolic response is not based on any strong foundation.
  • The weight loss achieved is also due to strict calorie restriction, which is not good for your health.
  • Since this diet is all about cutting a lot of calories, you would need to take those three days off from work.
  • If you exercise regularly, you must limit your exercise to the minimum possible as you will experience lower energy levels. And this can cause you to leave the tract and it can be difficult to get back to your usual routine.
  • The rapid weight loss is not permanent and you will likely regain the lost weight soon.
  • The fad diet can put your body into starvation mode.

WARNING

Although the diet plan recommends a strict diet, it’s better to skip it if you’re feeling very lightheaded or overly tired. Take good care of yourself.
