“Eat this and live!” by Don Colbert, MD is a guide to making simple food choices that lead to a healthier lifestyle. It’s an easy-to-read book with plenty of color photos, sidebars, nutritional information and lots of practical advice on healthy eating. I enjoyed reading it and while I was familiar with a lot of the advice and recommendations from reading and living about living a healthy lifestyle, I still enjoyed this book and found it useful as we continue to strive to get healthy feed.
If you are with Dr. If you are familiar with Colbert, you know that he wrote the New York Times bestseller The Seven Pillars of Health, as well as Toxic Relief and the Bible Cure series. Colbert includes some biblical references in this book, but not very many. His main focus is choosing food for health.
In the first three chapters of the book, he talks about living food vs. dead food, why your body is a temple, and what the Bible says about food. From there it’s all about food and what foods to avoid and what foods to eat.
He writes very clearly and explains why certain foods should be avoided or eaten. He distinguishes between foods that you should never eat and foods that you should eat with caution. Drinks and what to drink are also included.
There are even sections on shopping, storing and preparing food, making smart dining choices (including specific dishes served at specific restaurants like Subway, Quiznos, Outback Steakhouse, Red Lobster, Applebee’s, Chili’s, Cracker Barrel, Perkins and Please Note however, that there are only a few approved dishes in some of these places and the book does not contain a complete list of dishes served in restaurants) and tips for healthy children. It really is a great little book on nutritious eating and staying healthy. The colorful layout makes it more interesting to read than the plain old black and white text, and the sidebars and extras were interesting and helpful throughout.
Overall, it’s just a great little book for anyone who wants to eat more nutritious foods to feel better and live longer. I plan to take a look at it from time to time when I’m helping to plan healthy meals for our family. Because no matter how good a book, the key is to follow Colbert’s advice to eat better, feel better, and live longer.
