How being outside can improve your mood, even in the dead of winter.

The change of the seasons brings many joyful things with it, such as picking apples, cozy clothes and cozying up by the fire. Unfortunately, for many people it also brings the “winter blues” with it. When temperatures drop and it gets dark earlier outside, there is much less time for outdoor activities. This can make many feel depressed and anxious. One of the best ways to combat this is to get outside more! There is a Nordic concept called “Friluftsliv” that revolves around the idea of ​​going outside, rain or shine! The northerners believe that nature’s embrace is something that should happen all year round. Some of the main components of friluftsliv are:

  • Make the most of your time: Even if you have to use your lunch break to go outside, try to get some exercise into the day away from work!
  • Try to exercise outside: Walking, jogging, or even yoga outdoors can be extremely beneficial.
  • Be prepared: Always make sure you have enough layers to pack yourself up, and a hat and gloves won’t hurt!
  • Enjoy it: Use this time as much-needed time to yourself, so that you can calm your mind and reflect on your day.
