After a year of staying home and not being socially active, Radhika met up with Sonia. The difference a year of lockdown made for the two friends was amazing. But the results were as different as night and day. Radhika had gained weight and complained of joint pain and lethargy. Sonia, on the other hand, looked as radiant as ever. She was fit and looked rested. After catching up, they spoke to the elephant in the room. What could the two of them have done so differently that it changed their attitude so much?
Radhika first shared her story. After deciding not to order food in restaurants, she made up for it with lots of junk food. Since one was at home all the time, the number of meals a day increased. The meals between meals were high in calories. Dinner was followed by desserts and late nights. She thought she would make the best of being locked in her home, but she didn’t know the harm she was doing to herself and her family.

When Radhika spoke, she noticed how hollow she sounded. But they were friends, and there was no reason why she should be less than honest. Sonja spoke. Your day was as easy as it comes. Strictly home cooking, but with a good look at the amount of oil, cheese, and chocolate that is in it. She arranged the meals together with the timing. Hunger outside of meal times required consuming a handful of nuts and a glass of buttermilk or green tea. Sonia avoided empty calories as much as possible and treated herself to a cheat day once a week. She also exercised from home five days a week and watched videos online. She was happy with how she handled the lockdown and had a good idea of how to take care of herself.Self-sufficiency was critical.
