Wellness, on the other hand, is defined as the overall process of maintaining a general state of health, it involves the conscious decision of the person concerned to experience wellness, while health simply means the state of the person.

The combined term health and wellness can be defined simply as the pursuit of general health for humans. The term is often used as a means of promoting a better lifestyle. The health and wellness slogan has become a powerful tool in the hands of marketers in various aspects of human endeavor. However, many people are embracing the healthy lifestyle attitude while some companies are busy reaping the profits.

Many food retailers, fast food outlets, vitamins and supplements may see increased demand for their products due to health and wellness trends. However many companies will be adversely affected by this trend, tobacco manufacturers and fast food outlets are an example – but they have begun to adapt their strategies to customer demands by introducing a different brand of their products, which perfectly fits consumers’ needs and aspirations.

The driving factors behind discrepancies in health and well-being have been attributed to the rate at which obesity increased among Americans between 1990 and 2005. High rates of heart disease, cancer, and various foodborne illnesses increased at astronomical rates.
