Fried okra recipe

One summer when my kids were helping their grandparents harvest and preserve vegetables from their garden, they were producing okra like crazy. They kept coming home with bags of okra. And we can only eat so much Jumbolaya! Since we weren’t making grain, eggs, or grain-free batter at the time, I couldn’t make fried okra pods.So the kids created this easy fried okra recipe. I’m much more likely to make pages when it’s a quick and easy recipe so this is a win.

Simply roasted okra

I love roasted vegetables. The rest of my family do too, so that’s how we do them a lot. You get a nice bit of crispiness around the edges and a bit of an intense, toasty taste. Roasting okra is like roasting any other vegetable. Toss in a little oil, sprinkle with spices and put in the oven. When I prepare it I just cut off the tips of the okra and toast it whole. If the children help, I will let them use a crinkle cutter to cut the okra into pieces.

The kids love to eat it because it’s easy enough for them. Sometimes we roast a pan of it early in the day. I put it on the stove and then watch it slowly go away as the day progresses. The children think it’s the perfect finger food and grab one to snack on in passing.

Hot air fryer okra

I’ve purchased a hot air fryer since I originally published this recipe. The one I have is a larger, multifunctional device made of stainless steel that resembles a toaster. I recently discovered that frying vegetables in a hot air fryer is super easy. It’s faster and doesn’t heat up the whole house.

I decided to try the air fryer following this okra recipe and it didn’t disappoint. I cooked it at a slightly lower temperature for the same time and it turned out to be perfect. This post gives a good overview of how to deep-fry various types of vegetables.

Whether I roast it in the oven or in the air fryer, this okra recipe takes less than half an hour from start to finish and is a great addition to almost any meal. I even did this and added it to breakfast condiments.

More fried vegetables to try

I don’t have posts for all of the vegetables we roast, but I also really like roasted beets, cauliflower, and carrots.
