Healthy Eating – Four Benefits Of Eating Bison Meat

0 16

If you’re a red meat fan, you may want to avoid this popular protein source as you continue your healthy eating plan. Some cuts of beef can be quite fatty and loaded with cholesterol and, according to many people, just don’t fit into a weight loss plan. But that doesn’t mean all red meat has to get the boot. In fact, bison, a wild meat, is one of the healthiest sources of protein you can consume.

Here are some of the main benefits of bison…

1. Less fat and calories. First, know that for every 4-ounce serving of bison, you’ll be consuming a total of 124 calories and 6 grams of fat. You’ll get 17 grams of high-quality protein in it, making it an excellent option for consumption after a training session.

The protein found in bison is a complete protein and one that is highly absorbable by the body, making it a great contributor to promoting optimal muscle repair.

2. An excellent source of iron. Active people need to make sure they are getting enough iron in their diet on a regular basis. Iron is responsible for making red blood cells, which then carry oxygen through working muscle tissue.

Bison are not neglected. It provides 2.3 mg of iron per serving, which is about 13% of your total daily requirement.

3. Very often grass-fed. One thing about bison is that you’re very unlikely to roam the country grain-fed bison because it’s game meat. Almost 100% of the time this meat is grass fed because it’s in the wild. This is in direct contrast to beef, which is primarily grain-fed. While you can find grass-fed beef, it’s harder to come by. With bison, you wouldn’t need to worry about that extra step to look for grass-fed animals because if they were bison, they probably already are.

Grass-fed meat is higher in nutrients and is usually lower in fat as well.

4. A good source of omega fatty acids. Because bison is grass-fed, it also provides a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids. Grass-fed red meat has a much healthier fat profile than grain-fed red meat, so this will go a long way in improving your overall health.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for…

  • keep your heart healthy

  • prevention of type 2 diabetes,

  • Boosting brain health and for

  • Maximizing your body composition.

If you haven’t had a chance to see bison yet, now is the time. While it’s a bit more expensive than regular beef, it’s worth the cost, at least occasionally.
