How Long Should You Follow a Diet?

0 51

When you start a diet, the goal is not to lose weight as quickly as possible and then stop. Dieting should be a learning process for healthy eating. The question then is: How long should you stick to a diet?

In this article, we tell you how long you should be on a diet and when to stop. This is necessary to know because many people have no idea. When it comes to dieting, people mainly think of

  • hunger

  • willpower

  • fatigue

From the moment we start a diet, we focus on the day when we believe we can achieve our goal. Then we want to resume our old eating habits. Of course that’s not wise.

Therefore, in the following, we will not only explain to you how long you should stick to a diet, but also how you can continue to eat healthily after you have reached your ideal weight.

The weight you should lose

The first thing to know when deciding on a diet is how much weight you should lose. You can calculate this yourself using the BMI. All you need is your own weight and height and you can then determine your ideal target weight.

It is also important that you have this checked by a specialist or the doctor. These experts will guide you and help you find your ideal weight.

You should use your BMI as a guide, not obsess over it. Create a healthy lifestyle and find your own well-being.

When you start a diet, remember that you shouldn’t lose more than a pound a week. So forget all those wonderful diets. Instead, you need to lose weight slowly and steadily. This is the only way to prevent a setback.

Instead of dieting, just learn to eat healthier

A diet is much more than just losing weight. It is also:

  • learn to eat healthily

  • Sports

  • Appreciate the benefits of weight loss

You may think that reaching your goal is difficult, but in reality you can continue to enjoy good food. Get to know new recipes, find new products and bring routine into your everyday life with exercises.

Mind you, we don’t mean that you should diet for the rest of your life. When you reach your ideal weight, you can relax a little. You don’t always have to be strict with yourself.

But that doesn’t mean you have to go back to your old diet, because then your diet will prove pointless in the end. Try to find the happy medium so that you can maintain your weight and indulge yourself at the same time.

exercise is good

If you start a new sport while on a diet, find a workout that suits you. Then you stay fit and escape the stress of everyday life for a while. There are many sports you can do. So pick one. This is great fun when it’s an activity you can do together with you:

  • partner

  • friends

  • family

How long should you stick to a diet?

Do you already know how long you should be on a diet? As I said, a diet does not have to have a definitive end. However, you do come at a point when you need to stop, and that’s usually when you’ve reached your ideal weight.

We’re all different and that’s why you can lose more weight in one week than the next. If you’re losing less weight, it could be because:

  • whether your week is busy or relaxing

  • hormonal changes

  • many other factors

Don’t start out on a strict diet

In any case, you should never start a strict diet if you want to lose a certain amount per week. The most important thing is that you remember to never stop losing weight.

Once you’ve followed a diet, it doesn’t matter if you reach your goal a few weeks later. You should also not follow a diet that is too strict, for example not doing the following:

  • consume different types of food

  • eat out with your friends

  • Visiting family celebrations

It is not forbidden to interrupt the diet, the main thing is to start again, that is always the most important thing!

In addition, a strict diet will only discourage you and not give you the strength to keep going. It can be effective for the first few weeks, but we don’t recommend it. It is not sustainable in the long run.
