Tips to Stay Fit and Healthy in Ramadan

0 22

In Ramadan, it is important to maintain your health while fasting. The first thing is to have a healthy eating habit. Below are some tips that can help you stay fit and healthy during this holy month.

Never skip the first meal

Just like breakfast, suhur is the first meal of the day in Ramadan. This meal will help your body stay hydrated until iftar time. Also, it will help you not to overeat at iftar time. Make sure your suhour meal consists of foods high in fiber, carbohydrates and protein.

Eat fruits and vegetables

Fresh fruits and vegetables are a great snack. In fact, they’re a great alternative to the junk food we consume on a regular basis. Ideally, you should opt for fruits and vegetables that are full of water, such as pumpkins, squash, melons, and cucumbers, to name a few.

Don’t have processed foods

It’s a good idea to stay away from processed foods like white flour and sugar. They are low in nutrients and high in fat.

Eat slowly

You may have the urge to eat a lot at iftar, but it won’t be good for your health. So it’s better if you slow down while eating.

You can eat some dates and then drink some water. Dates are full of energy and they also help your digestive system. After eating some dates, you can have a lukewarm soup.

Your meals should not contain a lot of heavy oils and fats. Ideally, you should have some vegetables to meet your protein and carbohydrate needs.

drink enough

Make sure you drink at least 8 cups of water daily during Ramadan. It’s a good idea to stay away from sugary drinks like hibiscus and tamarind. While milk, soup, and juices can help you stay hydrated, know that nothing can replace water. So it is better to have small amounts of other drinks.

Avoid caffeinated drinks

Caffeine is the worst thing to consume during Ramadan to stay hydrated. Therefore, it is better to avoid drinks like cola, coffee and strong tea.

Avoid frying

Fried foods are also not good. In other words, it’s better to avoid foods that contain a lot of oil. If you still want them, make sure to use as little oil as possible. For example, you can use half a cup of oil instead of a full cup.

Also, it’s a good idea to opt for monounsaturated fats like corn oil, canola, and sunflower. Don’t reach for olive oil either.

Consult your doctor

If you are over 50 years old, do not forget to consult your doctor before Ramadan. Likewise, children, people with diabetes, and pregnant women should follow the same advice. You don’t want to worsen your health during Ramadan.

So those are a few things to keep in mind to stay fit and healthy during Ramadan.
