Colloidal Silver Therapy – A Re-entry into the World of Medicine

Silver is said to be one of nature’s 92 chemically pure elements with proven benefits to humans while being toxic to all types of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, parasites and a number of viruses. Recently, this miracle metal, in the form of colloidal silver, is slowly gaining acceptance as a therapeutic element. Meanwhile, followers of this novel form of alternative Colloidal Silver therapy continue to profess its amazing healing powers.

The term colloidal is derived from the Greek word for “glue-like”. Colloidal is a term that refers to a state of matter. An element or compound is considered colloidal if the particles are between one nanometer and one micron in size and the energy of the substance is mainly determined by surface effects. A colloid is a solid, liquid, or gaseous substance that is insoluble but remains suspended and dispersed in another liquid medium. Dissolved solids are ionic, not colloidal. Colloidal silver is a liquid containing mostly tiny silver particles held in suspension, with the particles carrying a slight negative electrical charge known as the zeta potential. In a true colloidal silver there is less than 5% ionic content.

Research conducted in the late 1930s showed that while silver was perfectly harmless to humans, it was toxic to all types of bacteria, fungi, protozoa, parasites and a range of viruses. Essentially, silver acts as a catalyst, deactivating the enzymes necessary for the survival of unicellular bacteria, fungi and viruses. At the same time, it protects the body’s own enzymes and stimulates tissue growth. Despite its proven benefits, silver fell out of favor as a medicine because of its prohibitive cost and the fact that manufacturers could not patent it. The discovery of antibiotics around the same time was a double whammy. The pharmaceutical industry moved in, resulting in colloid research being shelved in favor of fast-acting and financially lucrative drugs.

Silver re-entered the medical world in the 1970s in the form of colloidal silver. In its renaissance, it became even more popular due to its relative cost effectiveness and healing properties. It came as a pleasant surprise to everyone when it was discovered that colloidal silver is packed with medicinal values. In some cases, this turned out to be the only remaining treatment option. Many people use it and reap its benefits.

Thanks to eye-opening research, colloidal silver has now come under the spotlight. It is claimed to be the most powerful germ fighter. It is becoming a miracle of modern medicine. A traditional antibiotic might kill half a dozen different pathogens, but silver kills about 650. Resistant strains don’t develop. In addition, silver is practically non-toxic. It has also been discovered that silver ions promote bone growth. Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics, which destroy beneficial enzymes, colloidal silver leaves these tissue cell enzymes intact since they are radically different from the enzymes of primitive unicellular life. Thus, colloidal silver is absolutely safe for humans.

The following is a partial list of the more than 650 diseases that colloidal silver is said to be effective against: acne, allergies, appendicitis, arthritis, athlete’s foot, cystitis, blood parasites, blood poisoning, boils, burns, cancer, candida, cholera, colitis, conjunctivitis , cystitis, dermatitis, diabetes, dysentery, eczema, fibrositis, gastritis, gonorrhea, hay fever, herpes, impetigo, indigestion, keratitis, leprosy, leukemia, lupus, lymphangitis, Lyme disease, malaria, meningitis, neurasthenia , parasitic infections: viral, fungal – and bacterial pneumonia, pleurisy, prostate, pruritus ani, psoriasis, purulent ophthalmia, rhinitis, rheumatism, ringworm, scarlet fever, septic diseases of the eyes, ears, mouth and throat, seborrhea, septicemia, herpes zoster , skin cancer, staphylococcal and streptococcal infections, gastric flu , syphilis, thyroid, tuberculosis, tonsillitis, toxemia, trachoma, all forms of Viruses, warts, whooping cough, yeast infection, stomach ulcer, canine parovirus and other veterinary uses and fungal and viral attacks on plants. More recently, it has been claimed that colloidal silver has been very effective in treating deadly diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis C.

Recently, it is observed that some bacteria and viruses that cause human diseases have developed resistance to antibiotics. There has also been a significant increase in new strains of bacteria and viruses worldwide. This too has sparked renewed interest in colloidal silver in the medical field. Major companies are developing and introducing new silver compounds for a variety of antimicrobial uses, including protection against the spread of the AIDS virus.

Colloidal silver has been found to be particularly effective in treating skin conditions. This was established long ago by the late Dr. Carl Moyer, chair of Washington University’s Department of Surgery, in the 1970s when he demonstrated its effectiveness in the case of burn victims. It has been shown that, unlike the regular antiseptic, colloidal silver can be applied to a large area on the body and the affected skin can heal much more quickly and safely. Subsequent research has proven that it can be used for various skin conditions such as acne, athlete’s foot, candida, eczema, etc. with excellent results. When applied topically, it has been found to be painless on cuts, burns, acne, abrasions and open wounds.

Colloidal silver is antiseptic, has proven antibacterial properties and is antimicrobial. More recently, these properties have been suitably exploited in soap manufacture. The antimicrobial properties and germ fighting ability make colloidal silver a perfect ingredient for soap making. Because silver is completely natural, it makes a non-toxic soap. It should be noted that colloidal silver only kills microorganisms if they come into contact with it for a sufficient period of time. Therefore, regular use of soap containing colloidal silver is highly recommended.
