Broccoli Chatpata, a Healthy Way to Cook a Tasty Dish

0 12

Broccoli is nutritionally very healthy. It has vitamin C, one of the important vitamins we need in our daily nutritious diet. It is high in fiber and also possesses some anti-cancer properties. In short, it is a very healthy vegetable available in the market. I would say no other vegetable comes close to broccoli nutritionally. This plant looks like a cabbage. Cabbage has white flower heads instead of green ones.

Perhaps that is why the vegetable “broccoli” causes a negative reaction from almost all gourmets. At least in my experience…

We have tried to grow broccoli in our garden but due to the very hot summer we have not been able to achieve success this year. This vegetable does not like hot weather. The best time to grow broccoli is from early fall to late spring.

Despite the health benefits, we don’t want to give the bland-tasting vegetables a chance. I was also a broccoli hater until I tried this recipe. My aunt told me about this recipe over the phone and asked me to try it. I did it reluctantly and was pleasantly surprised. The mild broccoli is combined with spices and steamed to perfection.

Give it a try…if you love it, you’ll reap all the health benefits it has to offer.

ingredients

  • Broccoli – 1 medium bulb (washed and cut into medium sized pieces)
  • Garlic – 7-8
  • Peanut Powder – 2 tablespoons
  • Red dried chillies –4-5
  • Sea Salt – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cumin – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon

Take 7-8 cloves of garlic and a few dried red chili peppers. In a blender, grind the garlic and red chillies into a fine paste. Take a pan and keep it on medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of oil. Add some cumin and turmeric powder. Now add the garlic chilli paste. Add the chopped broccoli and sauté for a while. Add some sea salt and cover briefly until the broccoli is soft but not mushy. Add peanut powder and mix well. Season with lime juice and enjoy hot.

Note: Do not overcook the broccoli as it tends to get mushy. It should take less than 5 minutes for the broccoli to cook. If you like spicy food, you can add some spices along with peanut powder. This gives this dish a good taste. Try it yourself and let us know if you liked it or not.
