Mental Health Pandemic – Are You Aware of Your Thoughts and Emotions?

Because less than half of all people with mental illness are treated!! About half of mental disorders begin before the age of 14.

Mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in America. Approximately 33,000 Americans commit suicide each year. Just Clinical Depression affects approximately 19 million Americans annually!

Some experts say that we all experience mental health issues from time to time.

Every year in the UK more than 250,000 people are admitted to psychiatric hospitals and over 4,000 people commit suicide.

The statistics for other countries are also frightening!!

It really is a pandemic.

Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. According to the World Health Organization, mental health is “a state of well-being in which one can cope with the normal stresses of life and function productively… It is not just the absence of illness or disease.”

It’s the mental health issues that are responsible for most people who are overweight or have low self-esteem, or have problems with their relationships, finances, or career.

Why do we have these problems?

The answer to that is ignorance. We are told a lot about physical health, but most of us don’t know how to be emotionally healthy. No one teaches us how our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs affect every area of our lives.

In fact, the number one reason people smoke, get drunk, binge eat, use drugs, or harm themselves is because of mental health issues because most of us don’t know how to manage our negative thoughts and emotions.
